Texas Supreme Court Strikes Down Injunction Banning Investigations Into Parents of Transgender Youth

AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The Texas Supreme Court struck down a statewide injunction that banned the state Department of Family and Protective Services from investigating parents who allow their children to receive gender-affirming care.

However, it upheld the injunction pertaining to the family that filed the initial lawsuit against the state.

In March, Governor Greg Abbott and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton issued opinions and letters, calling on DFPS to launch the investigations.

The justices dismissed the Governor from the case and said that he and Paxton have no authority to enforce actions blocked by the injunction.

The ruling was limited to the enforcement of the injunction. The court ruled the appeals court that issued the injunction does not have “general authority to reinstate temporary injunctions of any nature.”

The decision was one of seven ruling handed down by the court on Friday.
