Conference on Crimes Against Women Kicks Off in Dallas Next Week

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The Conference on Crimes Against Women will begin in Dallas next week, drawing a crowd of almost 3,000 members of the law enforcement, district attorneys offices and outreach groups from around the world.

The conference will offer 190 workshops to help attendees work together to bring justice for crime victims.

Becky Park is the CCAW’s Senior Director and said the techniques will teach attendees how to shore up their coordinated community response.

“We want all these people to work together effectively as a team because we know that’s the way we are going to bring justice to women and their families that have been victims of these horrible crimes,” she said.

One of the workshops will help authorities learn new techniques while investigating what Park said is one of the most misdiagnosed homicides against women.

“Drownings are very often staged by perpetrators to be a suicide or accidental drowning and we need to look at those crime scenes more closely and figure out who the real perpetrator is,” she said.

According the World Bank, 1 in 3 women experienced physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner. Data shows an increase in domestic violence helplines nationwide, including at the Genesis Women’s Shelter in Dallas, since the pandemic broke out.

The conference runs Monday May 23 through Thursday May 26.
