Texas DPS: 19 Students, 3 Adults Killed at Uvalde, Texas, Elementary School.

Update: The death toll has increased in Uvalde after a gunman opened fire in an elementary school. The Texas Department of Public Safety is reported to have updated the death toll to include 19 students and three adults Tuesday evening.

UPDATE: UVALDE, Texas (AP) – Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says 15 people were killed in a shooting Tuesday at an elementary school.

Abbott says the suspected shooter, an 18-year-old man, also died and was believed to be killed by responding officers.

He says 14 children and one teacher were killed at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, about 85 miles west of San Antonio.

Abbott says the shooter had a handgun and possibly a rifle.

It was the deadliest school shooting in Texas history and occurred four years after a gunman fatally shot 10 people at Santa Fe High School in the Houston area.

UVALDE, Texas (AP) – Police in Texas say a shooter who prompted a lockdown at an elementary school has been taken into custody. The Uvalde Police Department said the person was taken into custody shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District said an active shooter had been reported at Robb Elementary School, which has an enrollment of just under 600 students.

Uvalde Memorial Hospital said in a Facebook post that it was caring for “several students” in its emergency room, but it did not detail the nature or severity of their injuries. Earlier, the district said that all schools in the district were locked down because of gunshots in the area.
