Red Flag Warnings Posted Through W Texas and Southwest U.S.

FORT WORTH – (WBAP/KLIF) Red flag fire danger warnings are posted for much of the nation’s southwest, as tinder-dry grasses and hot conditions continue through the holiday weekend. In Texas, the critical fire danger warnings are posted for many areas of West Texas, as well as New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado, Arizona, Kansas and Utah.

Ten wildfires continue to burn across Texas this holiday weekend; the monster and record setting wildfire in northern New Mexico that was originally two wildfires — now joined into one – has burned almost 500 square miles east of Santa Fe, with more than 330 homes destroyed. This fire continues to be less than 50% contained.

Critical fire danger has officials asking the public to avoid setting fires, launching lit materials including cigarettes out car windows, and to avoid parking on roadside grasses with an engine running or dragging chains, which can produce sparks.
