A Former Dallas Police Officer Honored by Fort Worth City Council

Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) _ In memory of fallen Dallas Police Officer Patrick Zamarripa who was killed in the line of duty in 2016, the Fort Worth City Council voted Tuesday to name a rebuilt baseball field complex near his former Worth Heights neighborhood in his honor.

Zamarripa was one of five police officers killed when a gunman opened fire as a anti-police brutality march was wrapping up in downtown Dallas on July 7 nearly 6 years ago.

Zamarripa’s mother Valerrie who was on hand thanked the council for the honor saying he played many years on the field near Echo Lake and loved baseball.

The council also voted to rename the park around the ballpark complex in honor of Ciquio Vasquez, who sparked Development of Little League baseball in Southside Fort Worth in the 1960s.

Zamarripa’s mother Valerrie Zamarripa commented on the wonderful honor being bestowed upon her late son.
