Texas (WBAP/KLIF) – Coalition of media local, state and national organizations has filed a lawsuit against the Texas Department of Public Safety for records on the Uvalde mass shooting. Under state law, such records are presumed public unless a government body cites a specific exemption under the Texas Public Information Act.

DPS has told the media that it is not releasing the records because of its ongoing investigation into the shooting. The lawsuit argues that there is no such investigation, as the guilt of the lone gunman is not in dispute. The Uvalde County district attorney has also said that she is not conducting a criminal investigation. Our media partner WFAA-TV v is part of the coalition of media organizations seeking the records.

Meantime, Uvalde Mayor Don McLauglin has accused the DPS of a ;cover-up; for weeks.
