Five People Ejected, Two Killed in Boat Collision Near Freeport

GULF COAST (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Texas Parks and Wildlife are investigating what caused two boats to collide in the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway near Freeport Saturday night.

Five people were ejected and two were killed.

The U.S. Coast Guard said a man operating a 22-foot boat traveling northbound called for help around 9:15 p.m. telling dispatchers he’d been in an accident with a 24-foot vessel that was traveling southbound.

The boater’s three passengers were thrown from the vessel, along with two others, a husband and wife, from the other boat.

Two of the men thrown from the 22-foot boat reportedly swam to the 24-foot vessel and began searching for their missing family member.

Rescuers launched a helicopter and boat search for the others who were ejected. The crew found an unresponsive woman thrown from the 24-foot vessel.

After finding her body, the rescue crew found a conscious man with a minor head injury. The Gulf Coast Rescue Squad located the other man thrown from the 24-foot boat but he was unresponsive.

The Coast Guard crew eventually brought the survivors and the two dead bodies ashore to Surfside Marina in Freeport.
