Attorney General Merrick Garland Announces Request to Unseal Trump Florida Home Search Warrant

WASHINGTON – (WBAP/KLIF) – Attorney General Merrick Garland has announced the Justice Department has requested a federal judge unseal the search warrant used in this week’s search and seizure of items at the Florida home of former President Donald Trump. Garland says he personally approved the seeking of that warrant. Garland does not offer details on what the Justice Department was seeking, citing the ongoing investigation, but earlier reports indicate FBI agents were seeking documents believed tied to an investigation into documents believed taken from the White House as Trump left office.

“Faithful adherence to the role of law is the bedrock principle of the Justice Department and our democracy. Upholding the rule of law means applying the law evenly without fear or favor,” he said. “Under my watch, that is precisely what the Justice Department is doing. All Americans are entitled to the even-handed application of the law, to due process of the law and to the presumption of innocence.”

Garland says the decision by Justice to ask the court to make the warrant public was made “in light of the former president’s public confirmation of the search, the surrounding circumstances and the substantial interest in this matter,” Garland said.
