Veteran Fort Worth Police Officer Faces DWI Charge

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News ) – A veteran Fort Worth police officer was arrested on a DWI charge after driving his car off the roadway Tuesday afternoon.

It happened around 4:40 p.m. in the 10000 block of NW Texas 287 Southbound.

When officers arrived, they identified off-duty Officer Stephen Thompson, an 18-year veteran of the department, as the driver of the car.

He was arrested on a charge of suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated and his case has been referred to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office.

The FWPD Internal Affairs Unit has opened an administrative investigation.

The department said Officer Thompson has been placed on restricted duty and stripped of all police powers amid the ongoing criminal and administrative investigations.

Thompson is the latest in a series of arrests of Fort Worth police officers.

Earlier this week, 16-year veteran Nickolas Honae turned himself into the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department on a family violence charge.

In a statement, Fort Worth Police said in part:

“The Fort Worth Police Department will continue to hold employees accountable who do not meet the standards expected of a Fort Worth Police Officer and in doing so, will continue to be transparent and open with our community.”
