Meals on Wheels Tarrant County in Dire Need of Volunteer Delivery Drivers

TARRANT COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Meals on Wheels in Tarrant County is in dire need of volunteer delivery drivers to help with an increase in demand in east Fort Worth.

There are currently seventeen open routes available and volunteers are having to double up on routes to cover the Handley Woodhaven area.

“We’ve got a real influx of new clients over the last several weeks and we just don’t have the volunteers to be able to accommodate all the routes. So, a lot of our volunteers are having to step up and do more than one or two routes a week,” said the non-profit’s Philip Gonzalez.

Meals on Wheels Tarrant County, like other similar organizations, stress that these deliveries have a major impact on the lives of their clients.

“A lot of our clients wouldn’t get their meals everyday. Volunteers do some wellness checks and, you know, a lot of times volunteers are the only person these clients are going to see on a daily basis,” said Gonzalez.

Volunteers must undergo a background check and complete organization.
