(WBAP/KLIF) — The Texas Department of Transportation is attempting to keep up with a population boom in Tarrant county.

FM 1187 between Crowley and Mansfield has become quite congested during rush hour commutes. In response, TXDOT is planning a widening of the two-lane rural roadway.
Jerry Green manages Jambos Original BBQ shack in Rendon and can’t believe the growth along the Burleson-Mansfield corridor. Rendon Nursery owner Laura Glasser worries business would drop during construction, however agrees the expansion is needed. Cole Daniel of Post Motors in Mansfield hopes TXDOT will make it convenient for customers to access his dealership during construction.

TXDOT is embarking on a $102-million project to widen FM 1187 between I-35W and Mansfield. Traffic congestion and accidents have increasingly plagued the two-lane rural road over the last ten years.

Designers presented two proposed expansion options, one of which would decrease the sharpness of the Rendon curve. Another public hearing on the proposed FM 1187 project takes place next summer.
