Residents Prepare Homes to Prevent Cold Weather Damage

(WBAP/KLIF) — A cold front is engulfing the DFW area this weekend and next, which has home owners looking at ways to keep their homes warm and safe. Home improvement experts are encouraging residents to prepare their homes for colder weather, Including Texas Home Improvement’s Jim Dutton says home owners aren’t likely to have bursting pipes, however they should be prepping with door sweeps, hose bib covers, caulking and water pipe insulation.

Low temperatures in North Texas are expected to dip into the lower to mid thirties, while the Red River Valley may see flurries on Sunday. DFW could see flurries next Sunday, November 20th. Dutton also encourages residents to cover outside hose bibs to prevent water pipes from freezing and bursting inside your walls for residents to get their supplies early, as stock at hardware stores is limited. Home owners should be extremely careful with space heaters, candles, or any open flames and to never use them overnight when they’re sleeping.

Jim Dutton can be heard at noon every Saturday on WBAP’s ‘Texas Home Improvement’.
