Attorneys For Former Fort Worth Police Officer Aaron Dean Request Change of Venue Again

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News ) – During a pretrial hearing on Wednesday, attorneys for former Fort Worth Police Officer Aaron Dean have again asked the judge for his murder trial to be moved out of Tarrant County.

They’re arguing that local media coverage, statements from elected officials and advocates about the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Atatiana Jefferson makes it unfeasible for their client to get a fair trial.

The filing specifically mentioned former Fort Worth Mayor Betsey Price, former Fort Worth Police Chief Ed Kraus and Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney Sharon Wilson. Price and Kraus are set to testify today.

Jefferson was in her home when Dean opened fire during an unannounced welfare check in October of 2019.

Judge David Hagerman denied a previous attempt by Dean’s attorneys to move the trial.

He was later removed from the case based on Dean’s attorneys arguments that he was biased. Judge George Gallagher is now presiding over the proceedings.

Dean’s trial has been delayed several times.

It’s scheduled to start December 5. Jury selection is set for November 28.
