(WBAP/KLIF) — After a five-year wait, a fired Southwest Airlines flight attendant has her day in court. A jury awarded Charlene Carter $5.3 million in July after the Dallas-based airline fired her in 2017 for criticizing her union president who supported abortion rights.
Now, a Federal judge has reduced that amount to fit within federal award limits, granting Carter over $810,000, along with $150,000 in back pay. The court also ordered Southwest to reinstate the Flower Mound woman’s employment. Carter was found within her rights to call Flight Attendant Union President Audrey Stone “despicable” for attending the 2017 Women’s March in Washington, D.C.
Carter took the Dallas-based airline to court for firing her after she criticized Stone on social media for attending an abortion rally.
