
NWS/FW – (WBAP/KLIF)- A strong earthquake measuring a preliminary magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale struck outside of Midland, Texas, Friday night, about 5:35 pm as people were driving home or sitting down to dinner. In part, because the quake was shallow, about three miles below the surface, shaking was intense, and the possibility of some damage may have occurred, although there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The initial earthquake measuring 5.3 was followed by an aftershock pegged at 3.6 on the Richter scale.
