Proposed Bill Cracks Down on Texans who Pay for Sex

AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – A state lawmaker from Collin County is proposing legislation to crack down on human trafficking.

House Bill 1004, proposed by Rep. Matt Shaheen of Plano would, if passed, fight human trafficking in Texas by increasing criminal penalties for individuals caught engaging a prostitute who is a victim of sex trafficking.

“My goal is a hard-hitting approach to attack the problem from every angle that will help to reduce human trafficking in Texas,” Rep. Shaheen said.

Shaheen’s comments follow the recent arrest of 46 people in a prostitution sting in Frisco ad Southlake.
