Cornyn Gets Tough on Border & Debt Ceiling

(WBAP/KLIF) — Senator John Cornyn held a press conference with Texas media outlets, Thursday, to weigh in on the partisan battle involving raising the debt ceiling, drug smuggling, and the migrant crisis.

Cornyn says a debt-ceiling stalemate continues between the GOP and White House. President Biden has pledged that a cut in Federal spending will not be a bargaining chip in raising the debt ceiling. The Texas senator blasted Democrats for $2.6 trillion in irresponsible spending with the American Rescue Plan and the Inflation Reduction Act. Most of the money went to special interest groups to litigate and promote a war on fossil fuels, climate change, and other far left agendas. Without Republican control in the Senate, Cornyn says fiscally responsible bills need to originate in the House. The Congressman says that Republicans have 10 different appropriations bills in the works that he hopes will be passed by the end of the fiscal year in September.

On the subject of illegal migrants, Cornyn believes a failure to enforce existing immigration laws and policies is allowing people from all over the world to flood into the U.S. Illegal migrants are flying from 176 countries across the world into Mexicali, and then turning themselves over to Yuma Sector Authorities claiming asylum. He states that 90% of cases that claim asylum do not meet the criteria. However due to a backlog, cases won’t be heard for up to two years, at which time deportation seldom occurs. Cornyn is also criticizing the Biden Administration for hand-cuffing the Border Patrol in stopping illegal drug smuggling at the U.S. border with Mexico. Cornyn points out that the problem isn’t a lack of Federal laws and policies, but a failure to enforce existing immigration laws by the President.
