MCKINNEY (WBAP/KLIF) – The McKinney City Council voted to call an election where voters will consider one general obligation bond proposition and three Council seats. The general and special election is scheduled for May 6. Early voting takes place April 24 – May 2.
According to the city, a bond committee made a recommendation to the McKinney City Council to call for a $200 million bond package for future development at the McKinney National Airport and capital projects outlined in its master plan.
The City Council, in recent years, has made maximizing the development potential of McKinney National Airport one of its top priorities. City Council approved the airport’s long-term master plan in 2018.
In May, McKinney voters will cast ballots “for” or “against” the general obligation bond proposition, which includes “the issuance of $200,000,000 general obligation bonds for the city’s airport facilities and the imposition of a tax sufficient to pay the principal of and interest on the bonds,” according to the city.
A City Council election will also be held May 6 in McKinney. Voters will elect representatives for one At Large seat plus the District 2 and the District 4 seats.
