DART Rolling out First Long-Range Electric Bus

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – DART is expanding and improving its fleet of electric buses.

DART’s first long range electric bus, a Proterra ZX5 Max, will begin revenue service on Monday, February 27, on DART Bus Route 20.

The new bus will join the seven Proterra Catalyst 35 zero-emission electric buses that are currently in service on DART Bus Route 28. Those buses, however, have a 30-mile range. The new battery electric bus has a 300-mile range. It’s battery life before needing a charge is around four hours.

As the agency advances our Zero Emissions Bus Fleet Transition Plan, this Battery Electric Bus will provide us the opportunity to evaluate the most appropriate fuel for our future fleet.
