Rare Versions of U.S. founding documents go on display at Bush Presidential Museum

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – A new exhibit at the George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas takes a unique look at freedom.

Freedom Matters opens to the public on Thursday and offers an extensive exhibit showcasing a collection of historically significant versions of America’s founding documents. The exhibit encourages visitors to consider the pursuit of freedom throughout history, how the work of extraordinary and ordinary people has impacted freedom for millions of individuals, and what we all can do in our everyday lives to advocate for the blessings of liberty and a free society.

“The Freedom Matters exhibit will be a real treat for our visitors,” said Ken Hersh, Bush Center CEO and President. “Thanks to Harlan and David for opening their private collections of historic documents and artifacts for our audiences. The Bush Center is honored to celebrate democracy and fundamental freedoms. I can think of no better way to commemorate the Bush Center’s tenth anniversary than with a tribute to our Nation’s foundational values.”

Freedom Matters features historical documents and artifacts that, during their time, were used to inform citizens in an era before mass media. These include rare versions of the Declaration of Independence; the Constitution of the United States; and the Emancipation Proclamation, as well as books by philosophers John Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau and a 14th-century copy of the Magna Carta.

The exhibit will remain open through December 31.
