CARROLLTON (WBAP/KLIF) – Parents and community activists met with the Interim Superintendent for Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD on Monday regarding recent Fentanyl poisonings in the district.
In February, three alleged drug dealers were Federally charged for their alleged involvement in dealing fake oxy pills laced with Fentanyl to students at R.L Turner High School and Dan F. Long Middle School. The accused dealers are linked to more than 10 Fentanyl poisonings, including 3 deaths.
“We are also going to go to the school board and present our plan of action, which we have done with the Superintendent,” Community Activist Carlos Quintanilla said after Monday’s meeting.
Recommendations from parents include creating a fund for students to cover rehab and drug treatment. They also want reimbursement for costs of funeral expenses related to the deaths of children attending R.L. Turner and Long Middle School.
Parents, including a mother who lost her son to Fentanyl, also want to create a toll-free hotline for anonymous tips about drug sales. In addition, recommendations include voluntary drug testing of all students, and increased canine inspections on all campuses.
