Tarrant County Commissioners Court to Vote on Las Vegas Trail Neighborhood Revitalization Plan

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News ) – A crime-ridden motel in Fort Worth’s west side could get an overhaul as part of a plan to revitalize the Las Vegas Trail neighborhood.

Tarrant County Commissioners will vote during Tuesday’s meeting on a plan to fund the project.

The City of Fort Worth will listen to a report on the proposal on Tuesday as well, with a vote to commit funding for the project next month.

Residents in the area have been struggling with high crime, homelessness as well as lack of access to healthcare and quality housing.

Commissioner Manny Ramirez said part of the multi-million dollar plan includes overhauling the Express Inn off I-30 which has been known for drugs and violence.

“Not only is it going to be completely overhauled and renovated to create housing for homeless families…wraparound services are going to be included. We’re going to have healthcare services and workforce development,” he said.

Commissioner Ramirez said he remembers being called to the motel for disturbances when he worked as a Fort Worth police officer and said the project sends a strong message to area residents.

“A lot of the things that the community at large has been missing will go in there and just helping to make sure we’re not just solving the problem for today…we’re solving the problem for a decade and hopefully give residents the opportunity to get back on there feet,” he said.

The proposal would be funded by three entities. Tarrant County would put in $8 million dollars, $2 million would come from the City of Fort Worth as well as $1 million from a private donation.
