White Settlement: $1M Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed in 2022 Truck Into Home Crash

White Settlement, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – A White Settlement mother has filed a $1M dollar lawsuit in herself and her husband in connection with a crash last year that killed their daughter.

18-year old Katey Kirkland was killed when a pickup truck crashed their home last August. Katey’s father, Kevin Kirkland, was rushed to a hospital for his injuries. Amy Kirkland was also hurt, but didn’t need to go to a hospital.

The lawsuit names the driver Donald Gruber and passenger Peggy Cox. both are charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault, according to documents obtained by WFAA-TV.

Gruber allegedly lost control of the truck before entering the backyard and crashing through several bedrooms of the house. Police say that Cox contributed to the crash by grabbing the steering the wheel of the truck before it crashed.

A Fort wort restaurant, The Point at Lake Worth, is accused of over-serving alcohol to the couple.
