Austin (WBAP/KLIF) – Fired staffers from the Texas Attorney General’s office are back in the news.

Lawyers for former employees of Attorney General Ken Paxton have asked the Texas Supreme Court court to take up their whistleblower case again, over concern that their $3.3M settlement deal may be unraveling.

In 2020 the former deputies to Paxton accused him o bribery and abuse of office in connection with his dealings with an Austin real estate developer. The former employees now claim that Paxton’s team is dragging its feet on setting a deadline to get final legislative approval of the settlement.

The deal calls for Paxton to apologize among other concessions, and awards back pay to the former employees; the latter on taxpayers’ dime.

Meantime, several state lawmakers including House Speaker Dade Phelan, have balked at using taxpayer dollars to settle the case.
