Rep. Mark Veasey Secures Fort Worth Y.M.C.A. Funding

(WBAP/KLIF) — Representative Mark Veasey secures millions for Fort Worth communities. The $3.89-million in Federal grants will be used to construct a $1.5 million covered outdoor community activity space at McDonald Y.M.C.A., while $2.4 million is earmarked for the Eastside Y.M.C.A.

The Eastside Y.M.C.A. was shut down during the COVID pandemic in 2020 and has never reopened, leaving residents without recreational options. According to President Mike Brown, the funding to re-open Eastside was a joint effort. Brown says the goal of the projects is to provide safe gathering spaces and programs to help residents grow in body, mind and spirit.

The Fort Worth Y.M.C.A. is investing in people, community centers and programs that help improve the well-being of residents. Construction on the Eastside Y.M.C.A. should begin later this year, with the facility reopening in 2024. The McDonald Y.M.C.A. is still undetermined.
