NORTH TEXAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The search for a missing and disabled Everman child has taken a drastic turn.
Authorities issued an Amber Alert on Saturday for 6-year-old Noel Rodriguez-Alvarez but that changed direction on Sunday, when Everman Police declared him an Endangered Missing Person.
Everman Police Chief Craig Spencer explained what led to the change.
“We learned that the mother, stepfather and 6 siblings (a pair of 5-month-old twins and 7,8,9 and 11 year olds) had all left the country on a Turkish Airways flight to Istanbul that flew out on March 23, two days prior to the issuance of the Amber Alert. Noel was not listed on that flight,” he said.
Investigators said the probe began on March 20, when police were notified by Child Protective Investigations about a tip it received that claimed some family members hadn’t seen Noel since last November.
When officers met with Noel’s mother, 37-year-old Cindy Rodriguez-Singh at the family home on Wisteria Drive, police said she claimed the child was safe and sound with his birthfather in Mexico.
Detectives tracked down the father, who said he did not have Noel and had actually never met him because he had been deported before his son’s birth. Police said Homeland Security records back up the father’s statements.
Chief Spencer also said detectives learned that Noel’s mother had been lying to them and had an “extensive criminal history involving alcohol-related offenses.”
“There could be a very simple explanation to this. Noel could be in the custody of a friend or a family that we haven’t been able to identify…but without the cooperation of a family or the mother and under these circumstances we don’t have a choice but to continue to look into it and address it as a missing person,” he said.
Rodriguez-Singh is facing charges of false reports to a police officer regarding a missing person, and probation violation for a previous crime unrelated to this case. A warrant has been issued for her arrest.
Meanwhile, on Sunday night, police said they located a vehicle connected to the case in a parking garage at DFW International Airport.
