(WBAP/KLIF) — With school shootings crisscrossing the nation, the focus centers on the mental health of students and adolescents.

$3.8 million in Federal grant money secured by Senator John Cornyn will provide the University of North Texas money to train counselors. The grant’s first of five yearly installments is funded through the Department of Education
UNT’s Matthew Lemberger-Truelove says the funding provides mental health services teenagers need to help prevent acts of violence. Lemberger-Truelove says the money will be used to train 50 new counselors.
The training provides counselors with the tools to identify and treat students who may be on the verge of the unthinkable, such as the Uvalde school massacre.
