Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – Kroger has shelved its plan to build a new supermarket a little east of downtown Dallas. Kroger had city approval to construct the new store on land it already owns just east of the Woodall Rodgers – Central Expressway interchange. The city approved the idea because Kroger agreed to build affordable apartments above the supermarket, but Kroger has now decided to concentrate on winning government approval of its plan to purchase Albertson’s, and to use the money it was going to spend on the Dallas supermarket project to build three new stores in Fort Worth, Melissa, and Plano. It has not said what it now plans to do with the land.
