
CHICO (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Investigators are looking into the cause a Union Pacific train crash and derailment in Chico that left two people injured Sunday night.
Union Pacific spokesperson Kristen South said a freight train traveling southbound hit an unoccupied train parked in a siding around 7pm.
The company said three engine cars and 15 grain cars derailed. A locomotive engineer and conductor were treated for injuries.
One of the injured was flown to a hospital in DFW.
The train was not carrying any hazardous materials. The National Transportation Safety Board announced Monday morning that it’s sending a team to investigate.
The incident happened near County Road 1540. Chico is about 80 miles northwest of Fort Worth.
