UPDATE: Services Resume at Southwest Airlines After Technical Glitch Grounds Flights

UPDATE: (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Southwest Airlines has revealed more about the technical glitch that led to the brief grounding of its flights Tuesday morning.

The Dallas-based carrier blamed the issue on a third-party “firewall that went down” which caused a drop in connection to some “operational data.”

Southwest is allowing customers who had reservations to/from any Southwest destination on April 18 to rebook in the original class or service or travel standby (within 14 days of their original date of travel between the original city-pairs and in accordance with the company’s accommodation procedures) without paying any charge.

UPDATE: 10:10 a.m. (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The FAA announced the pause has been lifted and services at Southwest Airlines have resumed.

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – History is repeating itself at Southwest Airlines.

The Dallas-based carrier asked the Federal Aviation Administration to pause the carrier’s departures due to an “intermittent technical issue” Tuesday morning.

According to the flight tracking website Flight Aware, almost 800 Southwest flights were delayed as of 9:30 a.m.

Southwest said it does not have a time frame on when the issue will be resolved.

The situation comes months after a traveling debacle due to brutal winter weather and outdated staffing technology led to the cancellation of almost 17,000 flight nationwide during the busy holiday season.

Last month, Southwest released an updated plan to address issues between its staff and customers, one of the promises was to invest more money in updating its technology.

The carrier addressed travelers complaints on social media.
