(WBAP/KLIF) Atlanta – The suspect in the mass shooting at a midtown Atlanta medical center has been arrested. Police Chief Darin Schierbaum praised the effort from his officers, the fire department and citizens who called in information as the manhunt was underway.

Police received a shots fired call on the 11th floor of the Northside Hospitals’ midtown location just after noon Wednesday. Police believe the suspect, 24 year old Deion Patterson stole a pickup during his escape which they later found abandoned in a parking garage.

Of the four women who were shot and injured in the medical facility waiting room, three of them are considered in critical condition and were in intensive care. The Fulton County medical examiner identified the fifth victim, who died, as 38 year old Amy St. Pierre of Atlanta.

Patterson was apprehended in a condominium complex around 7:45 p.m. local time. He reportedly used a handgun in the shooting which police have recovered. A motive has not been determined. Police say Patterson was believed to have had an appointment at the medical center where the shooting took place.
