Collin County Parents Urge Lawmakers to Pass Gun Control Legislation

PLANO (WBAP/KLIF) – A bus filled with Collin County parents left Plano for Austin on Monday morning, nearly 10 days after a gunman killed 8 people at Allen premium Outlets.

Members of the newly formed group, Collin County Parents against Gun Violence, said the purpose of the trip was to meet with local lawmakers about proposed gun control legislation. The group sent a letter to State Rep. Jeff Leach and State Senator Angela Paxton.

“Like you both, and like so many of your other constituents, we were horrified at the events at the Allen Premium Outlets on Saturday, May 6, 2023 – and, like you both, we want to ensure nothing like the Allen Premium Outlets massacre ever happens again,” the letter reads. “To that end, we have pulled together a large and growing group of our neighbors – most of whom are also your constituents – who were also devastated by the tragedy on Saturday and are equally concerned about the issue of gun violence in Collin County.”

CCPAGV is advocating for universal background checks with no loopholes, and raising the age from 18 to 21 to purchase any firearm in Texas. The group also wants the implementation of “red flag” laws, gun storage requirements, and “reasonable” waiting periods to buy guns.
