Fort Worth Police Recover Kidnapped Baby

(WBAP/KLIF) — Fort Worth Police Officers recovered a baby who was kidnapped, Monday night. The incident occurred in North Fort Worth at around 7:00 p.m. when an unknown suspect jumped into a woman’s car and drove off with her six-month-old baby in the vehicle.

After interviewing the suspect, police found the child in a car seat lying in a nearby ravine. Sgt. Ronnie Chau is the officer depicted in the video who recovered the baby, which appeared unharmed and was reunited with the mother. The unidentified suspect was charged with kidnapping, abandoning/endangering a child, and auto theft.

On Monday, May 15, 2023, at approximately 7:00 pm, Fort Worth Police Department (FWPD) Northwest Division patrol officers responded to a kidnapping call in the 3300 block of N. Pecan St.

The complainant told officers that an unknown male had jumped into her car and driven off with her six-month-old baby in the car. After numerous police officers responded to the call, law enforcement located the stolen car about an hour later and arrested the suspect, however the baby was missing.

Numerous additional officers responded to search for the vehicle, including Narcotics, Gang, and Directed Response units.

Just over an hour after the initial call, officers located the stolen car on Deen St. and took the suspect into custody; however, the baby was missing from the car.

Officers gathered information from the suspect and began checking the area.

Approximately five minutes later, officers located the baby and car seat lying in a ravine nearby.

The child appeared uninjured and was reunited with a parent.

The suspect was charged with Kidnapping, Abandoning/Endangering a Child, and Auto Theft.
