Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – Violence struck a Fort Worth family this week after responding to a social media ad for a car.

Fort Worth police say the family drove to an apartment complex off Normandale Street in West Fort Worth Wednesday night for private sale. Police say a suspect pulled a gun as the family drove off, hitting a 14-year-old in the lower back. The teen is hospitalized in stable condition.

As of last night no arrest has been made, according to the Fort Worth Star Telegram.

Meantime, the FWPD reminds residents of its E-commerce exchange zones located in the lobbies and parking lots of its district offices. They serve as safe places for buyers and sellers of items advertised online to meet.

The FWPD also offers these tips, if you’re unable to go to a police station:

Don’t meet people at your home.

Meet in public at a place with a lot of people around such as a restaurant or shopping area.

Never conduct business inside a vehicle.

Try not to meet at night but if necessary, pick a well-lit and highly populated spot.
