Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – The new owner of an abandoned Dallas hotel wants to turn it into affordable housing. The 10 story Cabana Hotel on the edge of the design district was gutted more than three years ago to prepare it for a renovation. That renovation didn’t happen, and the Cabana now has a new owner. The new owner has presented the city of Dallas with the necessary paperwork to turn the building into 160 low income apartments. The Cabana Motor Hotel opened in 1862. It closed in the 1970’s, and was turned into into a minimum-security county jail. Dallas County sold it six years ago, and it’s been vacant since then.
