Austin (WBAP/KLIF) – Amid support from Republicans in his home county, the Texas Senate has approved a plan to hold the impeachment trial for Attorney General Ken Paxton no later than August 28th.

House Investigating Chairman Andrew Murr says the Senate will set the rules of the trial.
The House has set a board of managers to present the trial. Among the 12 managers are State Rep Jeff Leach of Collin County and Charlie Geren of Tarrant County.

Meantime, on Memorial Day, dozens of Collin County Republicans rallied in support of Paxton outside the Collin County Courthouse. Paxton has been a resident of Collin County for decades.

One man shouted from the podium, “They’re trying to take away our guardian. That’s what Ken Paxton is. He’s the only one who can save us.”

Another protester said, “We have to stand up to tyranny.”

That, as all five members of the Collin County legislative delegation voted to impeach Paxton. In a joint statement Saturday the lawmakers reiterated their stance that sufficient evidence “indeed exists” for impeachment.

One woman told WFAA-TV that she will vigorously campaign to vote all five of them out of office. “They are out, they’re out. I’m sorry. I’m a precinct chair. I will be walking against every single one of them.”

Paxton is accused of misusing his power to benefit campaign donors. He has called his impeachment illegal, unethical and unjust.

Paxton tweeted a word of thanks to his supporters.
