MCKINNEY (WBAP/KLIF) – The Collin County Republican Party passed a resolution on Monday condemning the impeachment of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the Texas House of Representatives.

Paxton is accused of misusing his power to benefit a campaign donor. He is suspended while he awaits an impeachment trial in the Senate.

“The Resolution reflects the collective agreement and determination of the Committee, representing a decisive step forward in our ongoing efforts defend Attorney General Ken Paxton, and calling on Texas Senate to do the right thing and follow process,” a statement from the Collin County GOP read. “This noteworthy achievement underscores the commitment of the Collin County Republican Party to uphold its principles and work diligently for the betterment of our community. The unanimous support received for this Resolution exemplifies the unity and condemnation of the act of Texas House.”

The party claims that the process in the House was unjust and violated state rules. Party Chairman Abraham George says the impeachment should be thrown out because it concerns allegations that took place before Paxton was recently elected. He also argues Paxton didn’t get a chance to defend himself to the House General Investigating Committee, which recommended impeachment.

All members of the Collin County delegation in Austin voted to impeach. Still, the Collin County GOP is calling on the state Senate to reject the House impeachment.
