19-Year-Old Dallas Man Gets Life in Prison for Fatally Shooting Teenage Girlfriend 10 Times

COLLIN COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF News ) – A Dallas man who shot his seventeen-year-old girlfriend ten times in February 2022 has been sentenced to life in prison.

“This man brutally shot his defenseless, teenaged girlfriend 10 times, at least four times while she was on the ground in a fetal position. And the jury rightly saw through his lack of remorse,” said Collin County DA Greg Willis.

Collin County District Attorneys Office prosecutors said 19-year-old Armando Diaz Junior shot his girlfriend in the chest, face and back outside their apartment on February 6, 2022.

Neighbors heard the gunshots and called 911.

When police arrived at the scene, Diaz had already taken off. An investigation revealed that the victim had been living in the apartment complex with her boyfriend.

The apartment lease was in Diaz’s mother’s name and investigators said she told detectives that she was aware of the murder and even helped her son flee the scene without calling 911.

Diaz eventually turned himself into police four days later.

Detective Chris Walton interviewed Diaz, who lied at first but eventually confessed that he was drunk at the time of the killing and shot his girlfriend during an argument.

Diaz testified at trial and admitted to using a .45 caliber Glock in the murder.

At the trial, the first officer on the scene, Officer Arnet Brantley, testified that the victim was still alive when he got there but died as he performed medical treatment on her extensive injuries.

Diaz pleaded guilty and went before the jury for punishment sentencing. He will be eligible for parole after 30 years.
