North Texas School Districts Helping Families in Need Prepare Students For School Year

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Families across North Texas are preparing their children for the upcoming school year and two of the largest districts are giving a helping hand to those in need.

The 27th annual Dallas Mayor’s Back to School Fair kicked off Friday morning at 8 at the Centennial Building Fair Park and thousands of families who pre-registered will have access to free schools supplies, health care screenings and access to vaccines.

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson said students will be equipped with everything they need to start the school year off right free of charge.

“We’re going to have over 4,000 of those clear backpacks you have to have to attend a DISD school, we’re going to give away more than 10,000 school supply packs, we’re giving away 300 laptops to high school seniors courtesy of Coca Cola, every screening you can think of vision, dental and immunizations,” he said.

The mayor noted the fair wouldn’t be possible without the generous support from the community.

“Over 100 venders, we have 20 sponsors. The second way we’re able to do this is with volunteers and we brought in the big guns this year. We brought in the Junior League of Dallas as a partner and we now have over 500 volunteers,” said Mayor Johnson.

Tarrant County is hosting it’s Back to Schol Roundup where pre-registered students ages 4 to 18 will also receive free school supplies, health screenings and vaccinations.

The event is at the Tarrant County College South Campus from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.
