Armed Officers to Roam the Halls in Grapevine-Colleyville ISD

(WBAP/KLIF) — The Texas Legislature’s passage of HB 3 is aimed at increasing protection and safety of the state’s school children.  Grapevine-Colleyvilld ISD is the latest school district to partner with local police departments to station an armed School Resource Officer (SRO) at every campus.

The GCISD Board of Trustees approved interlocal agreements with both the cities of Grapevine and Colleyville at Monday’s meeting.  As a result, the City of Grapevine will place SRO’s in all schools within the city limits and Bear Creek Elementary school in Euless, while the City of Colleyville will station resource officers in all schools located in Colleyville.

House Bill 3 states that all campuses must have at least one armed security officer present during regular school hours at each school district campus.  Grapevine PD’s Amanda McNew says it’s a detterant to potential threats and provides a sense of security for students and parents.

The district has previously stationed SRO’s at all secondary campuses for years, but will now expand that practice to the remaining 11 elementary schools and the Bridges-Vista campus.
