Texas Man Dies at Utah National Park

(WBAP/KLIF) — A Texas man on a mission to spread his father’s ashes ends in tragedy.

“Delicate Arch” in Arches National Park near Moab, Utah

66-year-old James Bernard Hendricks was on a trip to the Sierra Nevada region in California and Nevada to spread his fathers ashes.  The Austin man had stopped in Utah at Arches National Park where he unexpectedly died.  Park Rangers found the man’s body near a trailhead parking lot after he was reported overdue on August 1st.  Utah law enforcement officers believe Hendricks became disoriented due to the heat, high altitude, and dehydration, as they found him with an empty water bottle.

Arches National Park, located in a high-elevation desert north of Moab, Utah, is known for its natural sandstone arches.  Bernard’s family says he was beloved by many.
