Teen Charged in Fatal Shooting of Terrell High School Student

TERRELL (WBAP/KLIF News ) – A 16-year-old is charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a Terrell High School student before classes began Wednesday morning.

It happened around 8 a.m. at the corner of Trailview Drive and Town North Drive about a mile away from the high school.

The killing is said to have occurred over a longstanding familial dispute.

Terrell Deputy Police Chief Arley Sansom said the victim was 17-year-old Damaria Jackson.

Officers who responded to the scene found Jackson lying in a yard in a residential neighborhood with a gunshot wound.

They performed life-saving measures and Jackson was rushed to Presbyterian Hospital in Kaufman where he later died.

In a statement, Terrell ISD confirmed Jackson was a junior at Terrell High School.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share with you that we have lost one of our precious Terrell Tigers. Our hearts go out to Damaria’s family and we grieve with them and for them,” said the statement. We realize that this will be a time of mourning and that our students and staff need time to process their grief.”

Deputy Chief Sansom said the investigation is still very active and other suspects may be involved in the murder.

“We do have one person of interest in custody on an unrelated charge and we’re conducting interviews in that regard. A second suspect has developed but we have not had that subject in custody,” he said.

A planned pep rally scheduled for Wednesday night at the school was canceled and police presence was increased on the campus.

This is a developing story.
