MESQUITE (WBAP/KLIF News ) – “821” day encourages residents to eat at participating restaurants on Monday that will donate a portion of their proceeds to help pay for signage on the part of Interstate 635 that runs through Mesquite as Officer Richard Houston II memorial highway.
The 21-year veteran was shot and killed in the line of duty while responding to a domestic disturbance on December 3, 2021. “821” was Houston’s badge number.
Approval for the highway was signed into law via Texas House Bill 975. The cost of the signage is $40,500 and fundraising for the project has already began with sales of special patches and whiskey.
Patrons have a myriad of restaurants to choose from including Bubba’s 33, Martinez Restaurant, Bull’s Pen Cafe and Mesquite BBQ.
