DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – A Texas dog sanctuary is participating in today’s Clear The Shelter event and is hoping to find some of their animals a good forever home.

Straydog has been helping rescue, rehabilitate and re-home abandoned, abused and surrendered dogs for 29 years.

Pam Bollinger is the non-profit’s co-president and says the facility also serves as a long-term sanctuary.

“We take in the one’s that have handicaps, dogs from people who have moved into nursing homes or who have died, not just because someone is tired of their dog…but dogs that really have no other place to go. In the country, often dogs are just tossed out,” she said.

All prospective pup parents must follow the shelter’s adoption process.

“Approval of application. We make sure the dog is vetted and is currently healthy. Pick the medical records up and do a home visit to make sure the existing animals in the home get along with the animals that are new to the home,” said Bollinger.

She’s hoping for a large turnout and adds that bringing a dog into one’s family has a myriad of benefits.

“Whether you have PTSD, whether you have a physical ailment…a dog is therapeutic…they bring nothing but unconditional love,” said Bollinger.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. inside the Neiman Marcus Courtyard at Willow Bend Mall in Plano.
