Red Cross in Dire Need of Donations Amid National Blood Shortage, Ways to Help in DFW

NORTH TEXAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The American Red Cross is in dire need of blood donations amid a national shortage.

The non-profit said the typical drop in donations over the summer coupled with the cancellations of planned blood drives due to Hurricane Idalia put a massive strain on its coffers.

The storm forced the cancellation of over a dozen blood drives and caused hundreds of blood and platelet donations to go uncollected.

The situation led to a shortfall of about 30,000 donations in August.

While Red Cross is accepting all blood types, there’s an emergency need for platelet and type “O” donations.

You can schedule an appointment download the American Red Cross Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org, call 1(800)-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information.
