Fort Worth Allocates Additional Funds to Address Homelessness

(WBAP/KLIF) — Four municipal departments have joined forces to attack homelessness in Fort Worth. Neighborhood services, along with Code Compliance, Police and Fire have each requested more funding in the 2024 budget to provide greater assistance to the city’s homeless families.

Scott Daniels with the City of Fort Worth says their team has seen a spike in homelessness this year and is now budgeting more money for homeless assistance.

The city enacted a program to address the rise is homelessness after the end of the COVID assistance programs. Daniels says the budget for the program has doubled over the past two years to over $1.5 million with a goal to assist more than 350 families. Fort Worth allocated a number of programs, including over $740,000 for the police department’s Hope Team, nearly $540,000 for the homeless camp cleanup program, and $450,000 for permanent supportive housing.
