(WBAP/KLIF) — One of 335 temples across the globe breaks ground in DFW this weekend. The Fort Worth Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will be one of three in North Texas.
The church’s John Elmer says plans call for a beautiful 30,000 square-foot, single-story building on 19 acres, which will be constructed in Burleson. He says temples serve a different purpose than the church’s weekly meetinghouses and are used by the Christian faith to perform marriages, administer the church’s highest sacraments, make formal promises to God, and seal family relationships for eternity.
Construction of the Fort Worth Temple will take three years, as they use the finest materials on the edifice, after which an open house will be held to allow the public to tour the structure prior to its dedication. Elmer says there are 185 operating temples throughout the world, 50 that are currently under construction, and another 100 have been announced to be constructed in coming years.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints currently has four operating temples in Texas, including Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Lubbock. The third DFW temple was announced last year, and will be built in Prosper. The Dallas Temple was constructed in 1983. Due to the forecast of inclement weather and water on the temple site, the ground-breaking will take place indoors on Saturday, October 28th, at 10:00 a.m. at 505 SE John Jones Drive, Burleson, Texas.
