UNT Exploring Drone Delivery Corridor from North Texas to Oklahoma

(WBAP/KLIF) — The University of North Texas is taking a huge leap into the future. An advanced new technology has found a home at UNT which is intended to bring an entirely new line of future jobs to North Texas.

Michael Savoie is a Full Clinical Professor of Operations Management at UNT

According to UNT’s Michael Savoie, their Discovery Park Campus even has a new drone testing facility, which allows the exploration of all the working parts of a massive drone delivery corridor that would run 160 miles from Denton through Durand, OK to McAlester, OK. Researchers at UNT are partnering with the Choctaw Nation in planning a new delivery corridor for the transportation of goods and services.

Savoie says the advanced regional mobility corridor is three to ten years down the road and will create entirely new job opportunities and professions. The emerging transportation technologies would include automated ground vehicles and advanced air mobility. He says while drone delivery may eliminate certain transportation jobs, it’ll also create entirely new professions.
