(WBAP/KLIF) — Dallas County Sheriff Marion brown will face her old boss come march of next year, as former sheriff Lupe Valdez has entered the race. Valdez officially signed campaign paperwork, Thursday, at the Dallas County Democratic Party Headquarters to begin a run for her old job in 2024.
Valdez answered questions from the media regarding why she’s running again, citing one of the reasons being the failing status of the county jail, which was passing inspections during her administration. Sje says one of the biggest gripes from deputies is regarding Brown’s mandated 16-hour shifts. Other issues include jail over-crowding, low deputy morale, and late payroll.
Valdez served for 12 years as Dallas County Sheriff before she threw her hat into the ring to run for governor in 2018. She will run in the March 5th, 2024, Democratic Primary against incumbent Marion Brown and newcomer Rodney Thomas.. Valdez served as sheriff from 2005 to 2017.
