Opera Arlington is set to perform an adaptation of “The Little Mermaid,”… but with a twist.
The opera, “Rusalka”, tells the story of a water nymph who longs for the love of a human prince, while an evil witch plots on her downfall.
“It is an absolutely gorgeous piece, General Director Bree Nichols said. “It’s probably the most famous Czech opera coming from the Czech Republic of all time, and it’s written by a composer called Antonín Dvořák. It’s got a lot of beautiful themes about the relationship between man and nature.”
“Rusalka” is presented by the chamber orchestra and is conducted by Jason Lim of the McKinney Philharmonic. It will be performed in the original Czech with English subtitles, and is approximately two and a half hours long with one 15 minute intermission.
The opera will take place at Tate Springs Church in Arlington on February 2nd and 3rd at 7 p.m. Tickets are $29 for adults, $15 for students, and free for children ages 10 to 13. They can be purchased online at https://www.operaarlington.com/ or at the door. Doors open at 6:30pm.
